Hi, I’m Daniel!
What can I say…I live in the garden of England in Tonbridge, Kent and have been married for 21 years and have three children. Oh yes and I work for an IT support company.
I decided to start running back in 2012 as I could see myself starting to get overweight and my kids used to joke that my tummy looked like Daddy Pigs! I gave myself six months to train for my first marathon and ran London marathon for charity.
All I have to do is look back at photos of myself when I started running and look at photos now and see how much fitter and healthier I am.
I know that had I not started running I would have definitely continued down a path I didn’t really want to go down and not sure where I would have ended.
I find that you can escape from the stresses of life and finding a new trail or new route that I haven’t run down is very exciting to see where it leads.
Training is key!
It is hard to find the time around work and family life but I try to train at least 3 times a week and run parkrun on Saturday and a nice long Sunday morning run.
So why Brynmor?
I find that flapjacks are so light on the stomach that I can eat them before, during or after a run easily. Brynmor flapjacks are really good as they have lots of exciting flavours but don’t feel like they are stodgy at all and because they are the perfect energy snack you can eat them at any time and it will keep you going.
Here are some fun facts about me…
Who is your favourite sportsperson and why?
Kílian Jornet – he is an ultra trail runner and runs trail races around the world.
His attitude to trail races and commitment to the sport is so good and the way he runs is lovely to watch.
What is your fave food?
I really enjoy a nice bowl of pasta – I tend to make pasta myself and then add sauce or flavouring to it – both my daughter and I enjoy Pesto and add this to our pasta.
What film makes your cry?
Titanic always gives me goosebumps and my favourite singer is Celine Dion so I always find the song and music very emotional.
What is your fave Brynmor flapjack?
Salted Caramel protein is the yummiest and my favourite at the moment.
My experiences keep me going…
I once ran a trail half marathon at Bedgebury. It was all off-road, through the woods, along deep ditches that tractor tyres had made and the ditches were full of water. I didn’t have trail shoes back then and wore my road shoes and almost lost one in the mud! I learned I needed trail shoes for runs in the woods and also to double knot my laces which I always do now, even for road runs.
My best running experience was running my two hundredth parkrun.
My family support me through giving me time to run and they know I do love to run parkrun on Saturday morning and the best thing was that on the morning of my two hundredth parkrun they all surprised me at the end by turning up with balloons – this included my 18 year old son who got out of bed early on Saturday to come and see me finish.
I also love to support and help people by offering advice and helping people to find the right pace – we all go off too quick at the start of a race so it’s all about finding a balance and making sure you don’t burn out towards the end of a race.
